The pulsation dampener is used in cases of unstable pneumatic signal in the sensing line. This accessory helps smooth out abnormal pulsations or spikes and improve regulator performance.

It is often installed when it is not possible to comply with the distance between the regulator and the sensing line connection recommended by the manufacturer or when the downstream line size (diameter) is too small, generating excessive turbulence due to high velocity.

This accessory helps to minimize pilot’s contamination from gas dirt and is suitable for natural gas and all non-aggressive gases applications.

Periodic verification consists in ascertaining the maintenance over time of the metrological reliability of measuring instruments aimed at the protection of public trust.

Pietro Fiorentini created a completely independent division to perform the periodic verifications, provided for by Italian D.M. n. 93 of 21 April 2017, “Regulation concerning the criteria for the execution of subsequent metrological controls on gas meters and volume conversion devices“.

Pietro Fiorentini inspection agency complies with the requirements of UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17020: 2012, and is therefore accredited as a Type C Inspection Body for the periodic verification of gas meters and volume conversion devices associated with gas meters. This accreditation allows to perform maintenance activities at the same time of the periodic verification activity.

Pietro Fiorentini inspection agency is structured to respond to every need throughout the national territory; in fact, thanks to three Territorial Units located in the North-West, North-East and South, it can easily reach any location around Italy.

The Organization bases its activity on objective evidence obtained through an impartial, fair, valid and reliable evaluation, not influenced by other interests and without prejudice.

The organization is structured with tools that allow the execution of all activities with a very high degree of automation; moreover, each inspector is provided with his own digital electronic signature with which he validates the verification reports; thanks to an automated process, the documents are transferred to the attention of the Technical Manager of the Body who checks them and validates them with his own digital electronic signature in real time.

All the activities carried out by the inspectors can be evidenced by photographic documentation which is always filed together with the relevant inspection report.

Natural gas is usually highly pressurized as it flows through transmission pipelines, but once it reaches the consumers, it needs to be brought up to the contractual specifications for delivery. This often means that in high pressure stations solids and liquids have to be filtered out, the pressure has to be reduced, and the gas may need to be preheated to compensate the cooling effect of the pressure reduction (Joule-Thomson effect). Moreover, the downstream consumers need to be protected for over-pressurization from the transmission line.
An accurate pressure control is the main contributor to the smooth flow of gas into transmission lines. The wide range of models allows to choose always the most suitable product for each application, because 80 years of experience in the field tell us that not all applications have the same maintenance and silent operations.

The main scope of a gas metering station is to measure the flow of gas, allowing distribution companies to manage the network and gas sellers to allocate and bill the consumption.

Water contained in natural gas has to be removed for various reasons: avoid hydrate formation and corrosion, and achieve the required dew point for liquefaction. Hydrate formation would lead to clogging of equipment and components. This free water phase might also contain portions of acid gas (H2S or CO2), thus increasing corrosion effects downstream: this is the reason why natural gas shall be dehydrated.
Gas dehydration units with fixed bed technology (molecular sieves and aluminas) can adsorb impurities by a solid desiccant. Dew points obtained by molecular sieve technology easily go beyond values achieved with Glycol or Low Temperature Separation (LTS) technology: water content achieved with this technology will be as low as 1 ppm vol.
Adsorbent media are usually molecular sieve beds 4A or 3A: the selection depends on gas composition (CO2 and H2S concentration), and required lifetime of the bed.
Typical applications of these systems are gas treatment plants upstream deethanizers and LPG recovery units upstream liquefaction units, or they can be used for re-injection into wells.

In gas purification, membranes are used to separate components in natural gas such as water, CO2 and hydrocarbons according to their permeabilities. Each gas component entering the membrane unit has a characteristic permeation rate that is a function of its ability to dissolve in and diffuse through the membrane.
The driving force for separation of a gas component in a mixture is the difference between its partial pressure across the membrane. As high pressure feed gas flows into the metal shell of the membrane unit, the fast components, such as water and CO2, permeate through the membrane.
This permeate stream is collected at a reduced pressure, while the retentate, i.e., the dry natural gas, leaves the separator at a slightly lower pressure than the feed.
Pietro Fiorentini offers this technology both in natural gas and in biogas purification applications.
