CO2 liquefaction is the process of converting gaseous carbon dioxide into its liquid form, making it a versatile and transportable resource. This transformation allows for efficient storage, transportation, and utilisation of CO2 in various applications.

CO2 liquefaction plays a crucial role in carbon capture and storage initiatives. By capturing CO2 emissions from industrial processes, we avoid releasing that CO2 into the atmosphere, thus not incrementing GHG concentration. The subsequent step of CO2 liquefaction allows for different kind of usage: from safe transportation and permanent storage underground or in depleted oil and gas reservoirs, to its integration into various industrial processes.

Advantages of the new RTCP machine learning system:

  • The Controller Peripheral does not need to know the pressure measurement at the Critical Point in order to set regulation correctly.
  • This means there is no longer any need for a communication channel between the two devices, and all related issues are therefore eliminated at source (e.g. to do with point to point communication, energy consumption).
  • The M.L. Algorithm protects against partial loss of data from one or both Peripherals
  • It is evolutionary and adapts daily to new data
  • It is analytical and recognises and filters faults in the data
  • It is verifiable and offers the operator all the tools to monitor the performance and degree of reliability of forecasting
  • It is controllable and allows the operator to define the level of autonomy of the system (control over sending of the Forecast Function to the Controller)

The new RTCP machine learning system consists of three subjects:

  • Peripheral Controller: active subject, forecasts the pressure at the Critical Point and applies it for Regulation.
  • Data Logger peripheral: passive subject
  • Centre-side Machine Learning algorithm: active subject. Learns the behaviour of the network and models the Controller peripheral.

For over 10 years our company has been working for optimal management of flows and pressures in water distribution systems. Our experience has defìnitely shown that the best approach for active pressure management in PMZ is the Real-Time pressure control at Critical Point (RTCP).

In fact this method eliminates inaccuracies due to a lot of assumptions, imprecise compromises and structural inconveniences resulting by traditional methods based on estimates and models.

The RTCP System is the innovative solution to adjust automatically and immediately the Critical Point pressure depending on changes in the water demand.

lt continuously monitors network situation and pressure values at critical point (CP) and in real-time acts on PRVs or pumps to minimize pressure and to prevent pressure transients in PMZ.

The water network becomes a reliable and efficient system able to provide the best customer service. lndeed optimal pressure values minimize water losses, energy costs and burst frequency, extending asset lifetimes and reducing operating costs.

This solution is the best practice for active pressure management as recommended by IWA practical approach.

The RTCP System consists of two functional blocks:

  • Unit for acquisition and real-time transmission of the pressure measured at CP;
  • Control unit which acts on PRV set point to change PMZ inlet pressure keeping the desired pressure value at critical point.

The RTCP System does not require other technologies (eg. remote servers) and does not need periods of auto-learning necessary to other solutions. lndeed, thanks to real-time transmission of CP pressure values, the RTCP System has the actual pressure value in any moment and not an estimated value that will never be exact. Since it is based on real values and not statistical values, the pressure adjustment is the best possible.

The RTCP algorithm is able to recognize a sudden demand of water responding with appropriate supply.

Overland is the web portal able to monitor multiple installations of a water network.
The system collects the data acquired by the Data Loggers geographically distributed, saves them on a database located in a management center and displays them via web mode.

In native way it integrates with Aquaworks thus providing a complete and comprehensive support for smart network management.

Main functions

  • Integration with company GIS system
  • Management of all installations in the distribution network by organizing it in several districts
  • For small systems: data monitoring such as pressure, flow, level, water qualitative analysis, cathodic protection. For the medium and large systems: acquisition and control for pumps, valves, tanks, membranes, ecc.
  • Reporting of all anomalous situations in alarm mode
  • System synoptics
  • View the data collected by the RTUs by daily or time ranged trends. You can also download the data to your PC for further processing through spreadsheets
  • Alarm or anomalous event reporting to the staff responsible by sending e-mail/SMS, in order to allow the quick and decisive action on the system in alarm
  • Management of maintenance interventions and interface with company ERP system

System architecture

The hardware and software system includes:

  • The geographic distribution of remote control devices Data Logger dedicated to the acquisition of the necessary data to monitor plant
  • The software modules necessary for the management of remote devices
  • A central database for data recording (the database can be installed on a server of the Client or End User, or managed directly by Fast hosting service)
  • A Web Server where the user interface application resides (also in this case, the support can be provided by Fast hosting service)
  • The software operates with a collaborative philosophy so its functions can be invoked by other applications

The WEB interface software allows the user to access data everywhere, just to have an Internet connection, without the need to install additional software on the PC.
